Video After The Jump

President Obama called Kanye West a "jackass" in 2009 for interrupting Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards. He took another swipe at West earlier this year and this time included the rapper's fiancee, Kim Kardashian.

The American dream involved some pretty basic stuff, a good job where you felt some security, a good education. People felt if they worked hard they could get there. I don’t think people went around saying to themselves, ‘I need to have a 10,000-square-foot house’. I think there has also been a shift in culture. We weren’t exposed to the things we didn’t have in the same way that kids these days are. There was not that window into the lifestyles of the rich and famous. Kids weren’t monitoring every day what Kim Kardashian was wearing or where Kanye West was going on vacation and thinking that somehow that was the mark of success.”

West hasn't forgotten those words. He got the chance to talk about them Monday during an interview with Shamara and Laiya from Philadelphia radio station Hot 107.9.

West addressed the perception that a lot of people hated him after the Taylor Swift fiasco and believes Obama piggybacked off of that sentiment when he called him a donkey's rear end.

"That was kind of my position in culture that [Obama] used that too," West said. "It's like, 'Oh he's a jackass' because that's how the world felt. But I don't care if you're the president or not. I care about thoughts and how you're helping people and what you bring to the world. My music brings joy to people. What I create brings joy to people."

When one of the hosts joked that West should leave Michelle Obama out of the discussion Kanye had an interesting reply.

"He shouldn't mention my baby mama name 'cause we both from Chicago," West replied. "I'm not going to mention him no more, I'm past that. That's lowering my priority of thinking at this point."
