It's bad enough that authorities have yet to solve Tupac Shakur's 1996 homicide, but now there's news that law enforcement recovered the murder weapon, then lost it.
TMZ reports that producers of the A&E docu-series, "Who Killed Tupac?" discovered a police document detailing the chain of events.
In 1998, a Compton, California resident found a .40 caliber Glock in his backyard and reported it to police. The gun was was booked as found property on May 30, 1998.
The L.A. County Sheriff's Department took control of Compton Police Department in 2000. During the transition 3,800 seized firearms, including the Glock were transferred to LASD.
In 2006, Deputy T. Brennan was working the case of The Notorious B.I.G.'s murder. While sifting through paperwork, Brennan noticed the address where the gun was found matched the home of the girlfriend of a Crip member Tupac had beef with.
Ballistics tests proved the weapon was used to kill the music icon.
A federal prosecutor assigned to the case decided not to send it to police in Las Vegas, where the murder took place, citing concerns "the discovery might alert potential conspirators."
The Las Vegas Police Department confirms the gun was never sent to them and now nobody seems to know where it is.
