Rita Ora may soon be parting ways with Jay Z's Roc Nation label. Billboard reports that the 25-year old singer has filed a lawsuit under California Labor Code Section 2855, better known as the "seven-year rule."

Ora signed with the label in 2008 at the age of 18. Her legal team filed the suit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday, December 17, asking a judge to declare that her contract violates California law and is unenforceable.

She claims the label has abandoned her as it has diversified into sports management and the streaming music business with TIDAL.

The singer states in the lawsuit that she is "self-funding her promotional television appearances, recording costs and video projects."

"When Rita signed, Roc Nation and its senior executives were very involved with her as an artist," states the complaint. "As Roc Nation's interests diversified, there were fewer resources available and the company suffered a revolving door of executives. Rita's remaining supporters at the label left or moved on to other activities, to the point where she no longer had a relationship with anyone at the company."

The lawsuit further states that when Roc Nation switched its distribution partner from Sony to Universal, Ora was left behind.

"Between Sony's limited economic return from its orphaned relationship with Roc Nation and Sony's indirect relationship with Rita, Rita is caught in a political quagmire of dysfunction," states the complaint.

Ora has only released one major project while with Roc Nation, her 2012 self-titled album.
