An 18-year old woman is facing legal punishment for spitting at police officers, resisting arrest and berating a black doctor who attempted to treat a wound she had suffered.
Raw Story reports that Zena Edwards spit at officers who offered her a drink of water, after they found her drunk and unresponsive. She was taken to a hospital in Rhyl, Wales, where doctors discovered she had a stab wound to the back.
When a black doctor began treating the teenager's injury she told him, “You can’t clean it, you are dirty yourself.”
Her defense attorney, Andy Hutchinson, said his client wasn't aware she had been stabbed because she was shit-faced drunk. He also insisted Edwards wasn't racist, "But it was a poor choice of words."
A judge punished Edwards for her actions toward the doctor and police by sentencing her to 12 months “community punishment” and 200 hours of unpaid labor. She must also cough up $333.69 to the doctor and $200.22 to each of the officers she spat on.
